Maha: Yavatmal Rain-Related Incidents Leave 3 Dead; Rehabilitation Minister Visits, Announces Assistance

Anil Patil, the state’s minister of relief and rehabilitation, said on Sunday that three people had perished in rain-related accidents in the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra and offered each of their families a contribution of Rs 4 lakh.

Patil, who visited Yavatmal on Sunday to assess the situation, also gave the district administration instructions to offer Rs 5,000 in aid and food grains to more than 1,600 flood-affected households right once.

Speaking at a news conference, Patil said that Yavatmal had seen recent severe rains, with more than 77 circles (in the district) receiving more than 100 mm of precipitation. On Saturday, floods in the villages of Akola Ba and Savar claimed the lives of two people; one of the corpses has not yet been found, according to the district government.

In addition, a lady was reported dead in Waghadi village when her home fell. Three people perished in the area, according to Yavatmal Collector Amol Yedge, while 1,426 homes were destroyed by the rain and water. The collector said that although 6,275 individuals were moved to a temporary residence and given food, around 280 people were successfully rescued from the flood waters.

In the near future, Patil promised, he would provide a report on the amount of the damage to the state cabinet for help and also talk with the chief minister about it. The minister said that the families of the three people who passed away on Saturday will get Rs 4 lakh apiece.

In order to determine the amount of compensation to be offered to the affected individuals, the agricultural department would shortly finish the panchnama (spot inspection) of crop and other losses, he said.
