Stanley Nair, a former state-level football player, went out on a scooter to do some shopping when he got into an accident in the Vashi region on Saturday about 10.30 am, according to a Vashi police station officer, as reported by PTI.

The football coach from Navi Mumbai was struck by a dumper. According to the official, he was hurt and taken to the hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him dead, as PTI reported.

For a postmortem, the corpse was sent to a government hospital.

The Indian Penal Code’s sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (driving or riding a vehicle in a negligent manner), 337 (causing hurt by an act that endangers human life), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act that endangers the life or personal safety of others), as well as the Motor Vehicles Act, were cited in the case against the dumper driver, Gokarni Sahani, following a complaint from the deceased’s daughter, according to the police’s reported PTI.

The event was being investigated.

Another incidence was the arrest in Navi Mumbai of a Dharashiv man who had been on the run since murdering his 18-year-old wife, according to police on Saturday, as PTI reported.

The culprit, Suraj Torkad (20), was arrested by the police on March 13 after acting on a tip from Chiple village in Panvel, an official told PTI.

According to the official, Torkad went missing on March 3 after reportedly killing his wife, Poornima, with a knife and setting her corpse ablaze at their Dharashiv residence, as PTI reported.

He said that the accused put a suicide note and faked the killing with the help of his two accomplices.

According to the official, Torkad, his mother, and his girlfriend are the targets of a complaint filed by the Bhum police in Dharashiv under Section 302 (murder) and other pertinent provisions of the Indian Penal Code, as reported by PTI.

The victim’s relatives said that she had eloped with the accused in January and wed him; on March 3, her in-laws notified them of her death, he added.

According to the official, Torkad informed the police that he and the other accused had reportedly stabbed and strangled his wife, then burned the corpse to remove any evidence.
