Man who raped a youngster gets 20 years in prison

Sandeep Singh, also known as Nikku, a native of Hazara Ram Singh village in Fazilka, has been found guilty by Court of Additional Sessions Judge Ravi Inder Kaur Sandhu of raping a juvenile girl.

Under the POCSO Act, the offender was given a 20-year term of rigorous imprisonment (RI). He was also mandated by the court to pay a punishment of Rs 1.75 lakh for carrying out such a horrible deed.

The prosecution claims that based on the victim’s father’s testimony, a complaint was filed against him at the Sahenwal police station on February 4, 2021.

The complainant claims that he and his family went to sell used clothing outside of Green Market on January 21, 2021, at approximately eight in the morning. His daughter, who is fifteen, was alone herself at home. When his wife returned home at 4 p.m., the girl was gone.

The girl could not be located despite searches. The accused’s family felt that she had enticed her daughter away with the promise of marriage. He was eventually taken into custody when a complaint was filed against him. After then, the victim was taken out of his custody. She said the accused had raped her.

The defendant maintained his innocence throughout the trial and said the police had wrongfully charged him.

The court said that the prosecution had effectively proven the man’s accusations when announcing the judgment. The accused asked for mercy, but the court denied it and imposed the punishment.
