Amid worries about data leakage, an HDFC customer receives several OTPs for “fraudulent” transactions

Delhi, New: A possible data breach sparked concerns when an HDFC Bank client expressed concern about obtaining OTPs for fraudulent transactions made in many different countries. The client revealed that throughout the previous three days, there had been several unauthorized financial transactions in various currencies. The consumer disclosed that she received several OTPs on her registered cellphone number and provided screenshots as proof.

The OTPs were meant to be used for transactions in various currencies over a period of days, according to ET Now Digital. The customer’s images showed efforts by scammers to make transactions in Euro (EUR) 5 at ‘Chat.Versai’, Chinese Yuan (CNY) 50, and New Taiwan Dollar (TWD) 1490 at ‘Taiwan High’.

“There seems to be a data breach from HDFC. Several attempts at fraud in several currencies (sic),” the complaint told the website for business news. We are awaiting a thorough answer from HDFC Bank. An HDFC Bank representative said, “We will review and revert.”

The event coincides with claims of an online data breach impacting six lakh clients of HDB Financial Services, the non-banking financial services (NBFC) division of HDFC Bank. The bank has denied these allegations, however.

“Hello, we would like to confirm that there hasn’t been any data leak at HDFC Bank and that there hasn’t been any unauthorized access to our systems or breach. We continue to have faith in our systems. But we take the security of our client data very seriously, and we will continue to do so,” HDFC Bank tweeted on March 7 from its X account.

Notably, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stepped up its efforts to fix vulnerabilities that have been found in the online banking systems of many Indian banks on multiple occasions.
