Mumbai and Thane are expected to have moderate to heavy rain, and an orange alert has been issued for today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange signal for the city for today, July 19, predicting significant rainfall in Mumbai and Thane.

The meteorological service had previously issued a red notice for the nearby districts of Raigad and Palghar, anticipating scattered areas of heavy to severe downpour and isolated areas of really heavy rain today.

An orange warning is issued according to the IMD (India Meteorological Department) classification for rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in one day, while a red alert is issued when rainfall above 204.5 mm is anticipated for a 24-hour period.

Mumbai has seen heavy rainfall
The majority of the island city’s suburbs and surrounding regions had mild to moderate rainfall on Tuesday, with brief periods of severe rain.

Data indicates that between 8 am and 6 pm on Tuesday, Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs, respectively, got 17.44 mm, 22.55 mm, and 18.87 mm of rain.

On Monday night, sporadic heavy rains also pounded Bandra, Dahisar, Chembur, Fort, Matunga, Byculla, and other parts of the city, according to municipal authorities.

On Tuesday morning, they said that there was no significant waterlogging everywhere.

There was regular traffic on the roads.

Railway and traffic are affected.
According to reports, the Central Railway was impacted by the rain and an express train engine breakdown during morning rush hour.

In the neighboring Thane district of Atgaon station, the Gorakhpur-LTT Superfast Express’s engine encountered a mechanical issue, however a replacement engine was provided, according to Central Railway’s (CR) chief public relations officer Dr. Shivraj Manaspure.

According to him, trains on the route were detoured via a loop line.

Since early in the morning, several commuters have claimed that the CR suburban services have been 10-15 minutes late, but following the engine failure event, the trains were 20 to 25 minutes late.

They said that since several suburban trains were canceled, there were more people on the platforms and on the trains during the morning rush hour.
