My encounter with the PM was not intimate: Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister of IT

On Tuesday, Minister of Information Technology Palanivel Thiaga Rajan stated that he did not have a personal meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 27, when the latter was in Madurai per official government procedure.

The minister gave the following explanation when reporters questioned him about the purpose of his meeting with Modi: “The state government used to depute a minister to accompany the former whenever the prime minister visited a place to receive and assist him and later see him off.” Similarly, on February 27, I phoned the PM under the chief minister’s office’s orders. Therefore, that meeting was formal and devoid of political overtones.

In response to an inquiry on the State Bank of India’s request for an extension until June 30 to submit information regarding electoral bonds to the Election Commission of India, Thiaga Rajan stated: “I worked in the banking industry for 20 years.” Only if a bank has a specific level of fundamental technology will the RBI provide a license to operate such bank. The fundamental information should be at the bank. Given its size, SBI ought to be able to provide the electoral bond information in less than two minutes.
