Nayab Singh Saini: a supporter to Khattar who has advanced through the ranks

Ambala-based 54-year-old OBC politician Nayab Singh Saini, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Haryana branch, was given full control of the state six months after he was promoted to that position.

Saini, a devoted follower of his predecessor Manohar Lal Khattar, has avoided controversy and kept a quiet profile. When Om Prakash Dhankar’s term ended in October of last year, Khattar was a major factor in propelling him to the position of senior party official.

It is believed that the party, which depends on non-Jat votes, elevated him in an effort to strengthen its standing among the OBCs.

Saini, an LLB, began working for the BJP as a party worker in 1996 before entering politics. He spent the next several years strengthening the cadre, and in 2002 the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) named him district secretary for Ambala. He was then promoted to the position of Morcha district president.

Following the BJYM, he was chosen district president of the Ambala branch of the BJP, after serving as state secretary of the party’s Kisan Morcha. Following an abortive 2009 bid to win the state Assembly seat from Ambala’s Naraingarh constituency, Saini became victorious in the 2014 elections.

During the first term of the Khattar administration, Saini was chosen to be a state minister. The party nominated him from Kurukshetra in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which he easily won.

Saini was born in Mirzapur Majra, Ambala, on January 25, 1970. She and Khattar were friends from their RSS days. Saini touched both the governor’s and Khattar’s feet after taking an oath of office as the chief minister. Saini used the opportunity to thank the central leadership and Khattar for his “good governance” philosophy. “We’re going to build on the progress Khattar has made. Our policies will be shaped by his “Haryana ek, Haryanvi ek” motto, providing employment without showing preference and gaining the public’s confidence via progressive measures, according to Saini.
