Panic has arisen among the locals due to a malaria outbreak in the tribal settlements of Rayagada’s Muniguda block, which are situated at the base of the Niyamgiri highlands.

Some tribal people of villages under the Kalyansingpur region, according to Dr. Mamata Choudhury, the additional chief district medical officer, have been experiencing high fever for the last 15 days. She said, “A special team from Muniguda visited the areas on April 13 and took blood samples for testing.

A few patients from Khambesi village were able to get treatment from the medical team, while others had to receive traditional medicine. Three people tested positive for malaria on Thursday after we collected and examined a few samples. The Muniguda Community Health Center has saved the other samples, and they will be examined shortly, the spokesperson said.

According to Dr. Choudhury, individuals exhibiting feverish symptoms have received medications, and mobile health teams will soon be visiting nearby communities to monitor the disease’s spread.
