Odisha: One rescued deer wanders out of Similipal

A deer that was seen wandering close to Kalabadia Chowk in the Bangiriposi range inside the Baripada territorial division was rescued by forest authorities on Friday.

According to sources, the animal had probably wandered out of the Similipal jungle with its herd. Five or so deer were seen by the villagers that day crossing Kalabadia Chowk. Four of them escaped to a neighboring cashew farm, while one got entangled in a fence and they grabbed hold of it.

Locals covered the scared deer’s face with a towel and alerted forest authorities. The forest staff then brought it to a veterinarian for an examination and returned it to the Similipal forest.

Maheswar Singh, the range officer, said that forest officers had been tasked with tracking down the last four deer and forcing them out of the cashew orchard. He noted that because the herd enjoys feasting on Mahua blossoms, it is possible that they crept into human civilization in quest of them.
