Odisha will endure a heatwave till April 20, with a break from Sunday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted scorching conditions in several areas of Odisha until Saturday, so the terrible weather won’t be abating. Rainfall and thundershower activity are predicted to cause the mercury to drop starting on Sunday.

In 30 locations throughout the state, Wednesday’s high was 40 degrees Celsius. At 43.2 degrees Celsius, Talcher was the warmest place; Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered 41.7 and 41.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Heatwave conditions were seen in two locations: Koraput (37.4 degrees Celsius) and Daringbadi (34 degrees Celsius).

At 8.30 am on that day, the humidity levels in the twin cities were 73% in Bhubaneswar and 67% in Cuttack, causing discomfort for the locals. On Thursday, the IMD issued a heatwave warning for 19 additional districts, including Cuttack and Khurda.

The state’s maximum temperature is predicted to climb by two to three degrees Celsius in several locations over the course of the next two days, signaling a more severe weather pattern. Thursday is predicted to be a scorching day in the capital city, with temperatures hovering around 42 degrees Celsius.

Although the state is still experiencing intense heatwaves, it has already had more heatwave days in April than usual. ~

Odisha usually sees one to three heatwave days in April, but so far this year, the state has seen five heatwave days in the previous 17 days.

Parts of the state saw heatwaves on April 5 and 6 during the first episode. The current heat wave is predicted to last till Saturday and began on Monday, April 15.

According to meteorologists, Odisha typically receives eleven days with high temperatures between April and June. Nonetheless, throughout these three months this year, the state may see 17–25 heatwave days.

According to Umasankar Das, a scientist at the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, “just like last year, the heatwave condition is expected to subside after April 20 under influence of rainfall and thundershower activity.”

Three days were spent without classes.

Due to an IMD heatwave warning, the state administration stated on Wednesday that all schools in the state will be closed from April 18 to 20. The government has decided to close all schools, including those that are government-run, government-aided, and private, for three days due to the current heatwave conditions and increase in daytime temperatures, according to an announcement from the School and Mass Education Department.

According to IMD’s prediction, a few locations in Odisha might have temperatures over 45 degrees Celsius between April 18 and 20. In the meanwhile, if the heat wave lasts until April 20, several private schools have made the decision to switch to online instruction.
