PM facing a complaint for allegedly breaking the poll rules

The Trinamool Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission on Monday, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had used public money for his campaign, in violation of the model code of conduct. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien said in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner that on March 16, after the implementation of the model code of conduct, the voters received a message from the Prime Minister outlining his government’s initiatives.

The TMC leader said that Modi allegedly wrote the message on March 15 in the form of a letter to the people. “The BJP released the aforementioned letter under the pretense of a communication purportedly from the Indian government, utilizing the PM’s office to do so at the expense of the public coffers. In the complaint, O’Brien said that “such widespread distribution is nothing more than an appeal to the voters in favor of the BJP and Mr. Modi and thereby flouting the mandate of the Election Commission.”
