PM Modi Condemns the Death of Former DRDO Chief V S Arunachalam

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the loss of former DRDO Director General V S Arunachalam, stating that his departure has left a significant gap in both the scientific and strategic communities. Arunachalam passed away on Wednesday in the US, according to a statement from his family. He was 87.

He was highly esteemed for his expertise, enthusiasm for study, and significant commitment to enhancing India’s security capabilities. To his family and well-wishers, my condolences. The illustrious career of Arunachalam included work at the National Aeronautical Laboratory, the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

From 1982 until 1992, Arunachalam oversaw the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and served as the Defense Minister’s scientific advisor. For his contributions to science and technology, he received the Padma Bhushan (1985), the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award (1980), and the Padma Vibhushan (1990).
