Police arrest four car lifters and snatchers; phones and motorcycles are taken

In a significant development, the city police have apprehended 25 motorbikes of various brands and three cell phones that were stolen from four individuals in two distinct crimes that were recently reported to the Majitha Road and Civil Lines police stations in this city.

The accused used to take these cars from the offices of several government agencies. Gurpal Singh, also known as Happy (18), of Ajnala Road, Gopi (20), of Dalla Rajputa village in Ajnala, Harsimran Singh, also known as Sam (25), of Neshta border village in Attari subdivision, and Harpreet Singh, also known as Mau (20), of Attari were the people who were taken into custody.

Ten motorbikes were retrieved by the police from Gurpal and Gopi, while fifteen were seized when Harsimran and Harpreet came forward.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) Varinder Singh Khosa and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Prabhjot Singh Virk announced that the police would post the engine and chassis numbers of these vehicles online so that individuals could identify their stolen cars and get in touch with the authorities to reclaim them. The victims would get this after a proper judicial procedure.

Virk provided specifics, stating that on March 4, Nikhil Bawa, Junior Naksha Navis (draftsman), reported to the Civil Lines police that on February 26, some unknown individuals had taken his car from the District Administrative Complex parking lot. He added that during the investigation, Gurpal Singh was apprehended by the police three days ago while riding a stolen motorbike close to government quarters near the court complex.

Four additional stolen motorcycles were found after questioning him. He revealed information on his accomplice, Gopi, who was taken into custody on Thursday. Five more stolen bikes were found after his interrogation. They claimed to have taken these cars from the DAC, which is close to the court complex.

In a similar vein, Virk said that Rekha Sharma had reported to the police that she and her daughter were returning from Pathankot. Four days before, she was riding in an e-rickshaw from the Verka train station via the Police Lines area when two armed thieves stole her purse from close to DAV Public School.

On Tuesday, the police detained Harsimran and Harpreet from the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital neighborhood while conducting investigations. The sharp-edged weapon that was used in the crime was also taken from the suspects by the police. Fifteen bikes were seized as a consequence of their questioning. They used to steal cars from the regions of Vishal Mega Mart, Ranjit Avenue, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Company Bagh, Railway Station, and Government Medical College.
