Police fail to apprehend those responsible for the murder of Nafe Singh Rathi; relatives stage a protest march in Bahadurgarh

Even after fifty-two days, the district police have not been able to apprehend the two surviving gunmen in the murder case of INLD state president Nafe Singh Rathi. Families of the victim and locals protested today in Bahadurgarh town, calling for the perpetrators to be taken into custody.

Shop owners in all of the major marketplaces closed for four hours to show support for the demonstrators. On February 25, at the Barahi level crossing near Bahadurgarh, four car-borne assassins shot and killed Rathi and his close aide in an SUV as they were on their way back to their residence.

Ashish and Sachin alias Sourav of Nangloi, Atul of Delhi, and Deepak Sangwan alias Nakuk of Narnaul (Mahendragarh) were identified by the police as the attackers. Ashish and Sachin were apprehended by the Goa police within a week, while the other two are still at large. In addition to them, a number of municipal authorities were also charged in relation to the case.

Family members and admirers of Rathi gathered close to the Bahadurgarh railway station and staged a protest march that went through all of the town’s major marketplaces.

In an interview with the media, Kapoor Rathi, the nephew of Nafe Singh, said, “Even after 52 days, the police have not been able to apprehend anybody else except the two arrested suspects. Despite the state government’s announcement that it will turn the matter over to the CBI, nothing has happened as of yet. As per the case, none of the local leaders who are charged have been taken into custody.

The excessive delay in the accused’s arrest, according to Jitender Rathi, the son of Nafe Singh, suggested that the conspirators were receiving protection. He thanked everyone for coming out to support them and taking part in the demonstration.

Four people have been taken into custody in connection with the crime, according to Jhajjar DCP Arpit Jain. They are Ashish, Sachin, Dharmendra Rana, and Amit Gulia.

In this investigation, almost fifty people have been questioned so far. Atul and Deepak are being sought for, and local authorities are also being questioned, Jain said.
