Pune: By May 2024, Yerawada Metro Station Will Be Complete

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has said that the Yerawada Metro Station in Pune is expected to open for business by May 2024.

On April 16, Maharashtra Metro authorities confirmed the same and said that the metro station’s entrance and exit points are almost complete.

According to reports, the deadline of the end of April has been set because it will allow for a comprehensive completion of the construction and the adjustment of entrance and departure points.

As per the statement provided by a Maharashtra Metro official, the metro station would be verified and approved by the CMRS team in early May after the work was completed by the end of April. According to My Pune Pulse, they won’t open the metro station to the public until they obtain permission from the CMRS authorities to ensure that safety is maintained and all procedures are correctly followed.

The construction of the entrance and exit ports was previously met with opposition from Yerawada residents. Finding it unsafe and faulty, they filed a complaint with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). As a result, the PMC made the decision to act and suggested reconstructing the entry and exit of the metro station.

Furthermore, the Maharashtra Metro requested authorization from the Pune Railway Authorities to erect a ticket booth at the entrance to Platform No. 1. A ticket kiosk is a self-service electronic ticket dispenser that manages ticket sales using an automated system. It is easier to use and more effective than regular live ticket counters.

Authorities from Pune Metro conducted a successful trial run in February, covering a distance of around 3.64 kilometers between Swargate UG Station and Civil Court Underground Station. The trial run started on time once all of the testing was completed.

It started at the Civil Court UG station and traveled less than 10 kmph (averaging 7.5 kmph) via Budhwar Peth, Mandai, the Mutha riverbed, and finally the Swargate UG metro station. It traveled from the Civil Court to Swargate across the Mutha riverbed.

For the Pune Metro, crossing the Mutha riverbed is a significant accomplishment. When this network from Civil Court to Swargate is operational, it will link the city’s central region and provide residents with a quick and secure option for urban transportation.
