NewsClick Funding Row: CBI Takes Charge of the Investigation and Conducts Searches at Two Locations

On Wednesday, the Central Bureau of probe (CBI) assumed responsibility for the probe into the continuing controversy over NewsClick’s potential involvement with Chinese funding. According to reports, the accusations were brought under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.

The CBI has been conducting searches at two sites in connection with the alleged FCRA breaches case against NewsClick, the authorities added.

Officials claim that a team from the agency conducted a search on Prabir Purkayastha, the founder of NewsClick, at his home and place of business. Purkayastha was recently detained by the Delhi Police in connection with an Unlawful Activities Prevention Act case.

The NewsClick Scandal
The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) case is allegedly violated since the site accepted foreign money.

Neville Roy Singham, an active member of the Communist Party of China’s propaganda department, was accused of injecting money into the site illegally as part of the Delhi Police’s investigation into the platform.

The site has refuted the accusations.
