Rahul Gandhi at Dharavi during “Nyay Sankalp Padyatra” in Mumbai

Gandhi said that impoverished women would get Rs 1 lakh annually in their bank accounts if his party came back to power during his speech to a public gathering earlier on Saturday in the Dharavi district, according to PTI. Gandhi also restated the Congress’s pledge to conduct a caste census.

“Dharavi belongs to you and ought to stay that way. “This place should become a manufacturing hub of the country and your skills should be honored,” he said, directing his remarks towards the Adani Group, which has been given the project to reconstruct the sprawling slum, as reported by PTI.

He accused some corporates of receiving the nation’s riches.

“Dharavi is your land, but through ‘dalals,’ (agents), the government is attempting to take it.” He said, according to PTI, “police force is being used to throw out the residents for the Dharavi redevelopment project.”

He claimed that Dharavi should become India’s industrial center since it really embodies the “Make in India” movement.

Gandhi’s claims about it were denied by Adani’s Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPPL).
