Rahul Gandhi may continue to run in Amethi

The top leadership of the Congress party intimated that Rahul Gandhi might run not just from the Wayanad seat but also from the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, where he was defeated by Smriti Irani of the BJP in the 2019 elections.

He may run as the party’s candidate from Amethi, according to Congress sources, and the party has made a suggestion to that effect.

According to the reports, Rahul Gandhi is expected to submit his candidacy from the Amethi seat after the conclusion of the Wayanad seat election on April 26. The election is set on April 26 in Wayanad, Kerala, where he is running from.

Leaders of the party feel that the Gandhi family does not need much campaigning in their historic seats even at this point. The party hasn’t shown its cards for either of the seats up to this point, maybe for this reason.

The nomination process will begin here on April 27 and the Amethi seat will be put to vote in the fifth round of voting on May 20.

The sources claim that the old party does not want to suggest to Wayanad supporters that Rahul Gandhi may withdraw from the race or that Wayanad might be replaced by the Amethi seat. Thus, in accordance with the plan, Congress has not yet declared their Amethi candidate.

Gandhi ran for both the Kerala seat of Wayanad and the Amethi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, he was defeated by Union Minister Smriti Irani in the Amethi poll.

In the meanwhile, Congress on Saturday night unveiled a list of its top advocates for the second round of the Uttar Pradesh elections.

Congress National President Malikarjun Kharge, former Presidents Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Avinash Pandey, who is in charge of Uttar Pradesh, State President Ajay Rai, Aradhana Mishra Mona, Salman Khurshid, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Ashok Gehlot, Pramod Tiwari, Sachin Pilot, Nirmal Khatri, Raj Babbar, and PL Punia are among the 40 celebrity campaigners of this phase.
