Rahul Gandhi tells electors in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, “Vote to protect democracy.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated on Friday, during voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, that these elections would determine the destiny of the nation and that every vote would determine whether the future government is made up of “a few billionaires” or of 140 crore Indians.

Rahul Gandhi wrote on X, saying, “My dear countrymen! The second round of this historic election, which will determine the destiny of the nation, gets underway today. Your vote will determine whether ‘140 crore Indians’ or ‘a few billionaires’ form the next government. Thus, it is every citizen’s responsibility to leave their houses today, take up arms in defense of democracy, and vote as a “soldier of the Constitution.”

Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in the meantime, urged voters to cast several ballots and emphasized that each one counted.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a post on X that the purpose of this election is to preserve the nation’s democracy and constitution. The goal of this election is to help those who are suffering from inflation, unemployment, corruption, and difficult financial circumstances.”

“I appeal to you, my countrymen, to vote in large numbers, vote on your issues and this time form a people’s government that works only for you,” she said.

The polls opened on Friday at 7 a.m. Votes will be tallied on June 4 after the seven stages of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, which begin on June 1 and end on June 1.

The Election Commission of India reports that 88 seats from 13 states and union territories will compete in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections’ second phase.

At first, today’s elections were supposed to take place in 89 seats. However, the Election Commission (EC) subsequently declared that the death of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate would prevent the second round of voting in Betul, Madhya Pradesh.

With all 20 seats up for election today, Kerala has the most constituencies, followed by Karnataka with 14. Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tripura, and Manipur are among the other states that will hold elections on Friday. Friday will also see voting for the parliamentary seat in Jammu. There are 1202 contenders in the race, 1098 of them are men and 102 of whom are women.

The electorate that will choose candidates consists of 7.8 crore female and 8.08 crore male voters. In the second round of voting, 5,929 voters who identify as third genders will also exercise their right to vote.

The world’s biggest electoral process, the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections 2024, began with 102 seats spread over 21 states and Union Territories on April 19. The Election Commission reports that more than 62% of registered voters participated. The election for the third phase is scheduled for May 7.
