INDIA VOTES 2024: More politicians resign from positions, and Congress problem is far from over

The problems facing the city Congress seem to be far from resolved as more officeholders step down from their positions. The rebels claim that there will be a major uprising inside the party in the coming days, and that resignations will probably occur on a daily basis.

Senior Congress politician and former Member of Parliament Pawan Kumar Bansal’s close associates claimed that in the next few days, general secretaries, young Congress members, leaders of different wings, and council members will all be stepping down from their positions. Council members are anticipated to turn in their papers, according to sources, including Bansal’s close friend and vice president, Gurpreet Singh Gabi.

Additional office-bearers resigned today, asking city party president HS Lucky to do the same. Among them was Mihir Guleria, head of the party’s Himachal Pradesh cell. “We are offended by Lucky’s social media post that said, ‘Bansal ke saath khela ho gaya,’ after his refusal of a party ticket. “All of us have submitted our resignations to Mallikarjun Khargeji, the President of the country,” Guleria said.

Guleria called Lucky’s allegation that the Himachal Pradesh cell had already been disbanded and that she was no longer its chairperson to be a lie. Lucky said that a few of the leaders who resigned yesterday have retracted their resignations.

A top Bansal camp leader, who had also quit, said that they want either Lucky’s removal or a ticket for Bansal.

Lucky had already recommended that the party high leadership bring in a new face from the city. In the meanwhile, Lucky made a video public where he said, “Let’s sit down and resolve if anyone in the party has any grievances with me.” Instead than taking the matter to the public, let’s settle it inside the party. We are fighting the BJP and PM Narendra Modi’s policies in this significant election. We shall regret for the rest of our lives that we were unable to fight the BJP, which is abusing its position in the nation, if we did not get along in this election.

The rebels instruct Tewari to remove Lucky.

Congress Mahila Morcha president Deepa Dubey’s home in Sector 15 hosted a meeting between a handful of rebels and Manish Tewari, the candidate for Congress. “He asked us to support him and take back the resignations,” Dubey recalled in an interview with the Chandigarh Tribune, “but we clearly told him to remove Congress president HS lucky first.” He said he had no control over it. We thus maintain our position.
