Schools in certain impacted districts of Punjab and Haryana have already been ordered closed by the authorities.

The Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal in Rajpura town spilled due to a rupture, prompting the Patiala district government to request Army help as severe rains tore through other areas of Punjab.

In certain other areas of Punjab, the Army has been placed on notice, according to authorities.

They said that when water reached a private hospital in Rajpura, the patients were moved to two other facilities.

On crucial road segments in the two states, the heavy monsoon rain continued to cause traffic jams, according to the authorities.

Gaurav Yadav, the director general of police (DGP) for Punjab, has previously said that considerable preparations had been taken to handle any form of emergency resulting from anticipated floods.

In addition, a number of teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been sent to the flood-affected areas of Mohali, Rupnagar, and Fatehgarh Sahib.

People in low-lying districts close to the Yamuna River have been warned to avoid the riverside because of the steady rise in water levels caused by the heavy rains at the Hathini Kund Barrage, according to the authorities.

2.79 lakh cusecs of water were released from the barrage on Monday at 8 a.m., according to them.

According to the authorities, Siswan Nadi broke through at Rupnagar, Punjab, close to Kamalpur.
