Republic Day Parade: EC Tableau to Highlight “Home Voting” and Show Massive Scale of Lok Sabha Elections

In anticipation of the largest elections in history, the Election Commission of India has based its Republic Day tableau on the impending Lok Sabha elections. The tableau, titled “India: Mother of Democracy,” shows how the nation’s elections are conducted in a free, fair, inclusive, accessible, and participatory manner.

The front of the tableau depicts an inked finger using an electronic voting machine (EVM) to push a button and cast a vote. The poll organization said that this portrayal highlights how ECI supports an inclusive democracy that empowers all citizens, irrespective of their gender, caste, religion, or origin.

The tableau also illustrates the scale of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections: 12 lakh polling stations would host 96 crore voters, and around 1.5 crore staff members will oversee the electoral process.

“The sides of the (tableau) trailer depict the ease of voting, as guaranteed by the commission at every polling place,” the ECI said.

For voters who are 80 years of age or older and who qualify as People with Disabilities (PWDs), the poll board has established a home voting option.

“The Election Commission guarantees that every voter has a delightful voting experience, immersed in election festivities which is depicted at the polling station, shown on the trailer,” it said, guided by the guiding principle “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure.”

Additionally, many societal segments have been shown as waiting in line, highlighting the nation’s cultural variety.

The rear section of the tableau depicts “ECI’s effort towards ‘No Voter Left Behind,’ wherein we overcome extreme physical challenges, whether it be in the form of coastal areas, snow-clad peaks, dry or cold desert areas, or interior villages affected by Left Wing Extremism,” it continued.

On Friday, January 26, the 75th Republic Day Parade will take place at Kartavya Path. The procession will focus mostly on women, with the themes of “Viksit Bharat” and “Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka.”

The majority of the marching contingents in the parade will be women, and the tableaux representing the states, Union Territories (UTs), and central ministries and organizations will highlight the nation’s rich cultural variety, unity, and development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that India is the true mother of democracy, which is why these themes have been chosen accordingly.

This is the first time that 100 female musicians playing Indian musical instruments will lead the march. The Republic Day Parade’s chief guest for this year will be French President Emmanuel Macron.
