15 are in custody for assaulting an Odisha police driver and woman IIC

Up to 15 people, including two women from Udaipur village in the Balasore district, were detained by Bhograi police on Monday. They were accused of beating a female inspector in charge of the Udaipur Marine police station in the Bhograi block when she visited the village on Sunday night at approximately 10.30 p.m. to halt gaming.

Following the collision, Bhograi hospital hospitalized IIC Champabati Soren and driver Sudhanshu Mohanty, who suffered injuries, before they were subsequently released following treatment.

Sources said that the illicit brown sugar trade, gambling, and liquor trade are well-known in Udaipur village, which is bordering West Bengal and Odisha.

The IIC visited the hamlet on Sunday night with her driver in order to put an end to the unlawful gaming activity.

As she arrived, some of the locals began to quarrel with her, but other villagers, some of whom were women, pulled the IIC into a store and locked her up before giving her a thrashing. The police van’s driver was also beaten up as he tried to save Soren. The driver and the IIC were both hurt.

Following notification, two police units, under the command of Inspector Sudipta Sahu of Bhograi police station and Inspector Premoda Nayak of Kamarda police station, hurried to the area and saved the two.

According to sources, a police battalion was sent to the area after the incident in order to maintain peace and order.

When police teams arrived to investigate, the majority of the village’s men left, believing that the authorities were taking action.

According to Jaleswar’s sub-divisional police officer, Dilip Kumar Sahoo, an IIC from the Udaipur Marine police station responded quickly to a tip about gambling in the hamlet when she was out on a night patrol. As soon as she arrived, the locals assaulted her, and things were out of hand.
