BJP demands EC involvement, claiming that party flags and hoardings were demolished

Hyderabad: On Thursday, a Telangana BJP team led by general secretary G Premender Reddy and secretary Kolli Madhavi requested the Election Commission’s involvement about instances of party flags being torn down around Hyderabad.

The BJP leaders made a complaint to the Commission, pointing out the disorderly and illegal actions of a few miscreants who have been shredding and damaging party flags. Hoardings that have been built over bus shelters with approval from the EC and other relevant authorities are often being demolished. They added that the hoarding that was put up at the bus shelter along VV Nagar Road in Dilsukhnagar has been damaged. A hoarding that was built at the main road in the same area has been demolished. The party believes that these actions are being taken with the Congress’s active cooperation and at its request. “These assaults on the hoardings began shortly after a FIR was filed against CM Revanth Reddy for his alleged participation in morphing and circulating a video of Union Home Minister. We fear that this might extend to other districts. A leader said, “The Congress activists may resort to similar mischievous acts in the guise of unknown entities.”

It claims that unauthorized hoardings and flexis are being built all throughout the city, spreading false information to demonize the Union administration, which is not acceptable. A large banner with misleading narratives is seen at the Biodiversity overpass in Gachibowli, Chevella constituency. The police are removing saffron flags that residents flew atop their homes on Rama Navami and Hanuman Jayanti in several parts of the State, particularly in Hyderabad.

The letter claimed that the police are breaking into people’s private residences and taking down the flags.

“This has never happened before. This unjustified police interference in private and holy settings is very offensive since individuals have the freedom to propagate religion in whatever way they see fit,” the representative said.

“Despite our earlier complaint, Speaker of State Assembly Gaddam Prasad Kumar has been continuing to campaign for INC; no action has been initiated against him so far,” the party stated, referring to an earlier EC action against the Speakers of Odisha and Gujarat.
