Rice Crisis in ULFA-I Camps, Assam DGP Says, Cadres Considering Leaving

The United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I), a banned rebel organization, is experiencing a food crisis in its camps, according to Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendran Pratap Singh on Wednesday.

After attending a law and order review meeting in Tinsukia, Upper Assam, he made these statements.

There is now a food scarcity in the ULFA-I camps. In the camps, malaria is a prevalent issue during the monsoon season. There is a rice scarcity there. Without rice, how can an Assamese youngster remain there? So many cadres want to get out of the camp. When there are updates from the camps, they get in contact with us. Many people will return if we can provide a safe way, according to the DGP.

“I have no knowledge of the number of young people in Upper Assam who want to join ULFA-I. But many of the early travelers want to return. We’ve heard about it,” he said.

Singh said, “I am carrying out the responsibility given to me by the government,” when asked to comment on the claims of extortion made by many businesspeople. I must carry out my obligations as DGP. They are chastising me from afar. Come on over and have a seat with us, I’m saying. According to ULFA-I, they did not demand payment. They are the extortionists who commit crimes. We are pursuing a criminal operation against them. ULFA-I ought to assist us in this endeavor as well. What is the ULFA-I’s reluctance to prosecuting the criminals?

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended an invitation to ULFA-I leader Paresh Baruah to stay in Assam for a week.

“I have no right to respond to the Chief Minister’s comments. He makes some wise points. We have always stated that. They are unable to ascertain what is occurring in Assam. Everyone ought to attend. The moment is here to develop Assam. Everyone should attend and participate in its development, according to the DGP.

DGP Singh reviewed a meeting that took place on Wednesday in Tinsukia with the superintendents of police from Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sadia, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Charideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat. Top Army, CRPF, and Assam Rifles personnel as well as the Inspector General of Police for the Upper Assam Zone, Jeetmal Dole, also attended the meeting.
