Row sparked by Karnataka BJP MLA Yatnal’s “suicide” statement

Karnataka Sugar Minister Shivanand Patil has come under fire from BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal for his remarks on farmers who take their own lives, implying that he would compensate the farmer with Rs 5 crore in the event that the farmer committed suicide.

Yatnal went on to say that in the event that D K Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister who had supported Patil’s remarks, took his own life, he would also pay Rs 50 crore in compensation.

Yatnal said that Patil had stated in the Assembly that farmers killed themselves in order to get compensation during a BJP gathering in Chikkodi. He said, “I had told Patil to kill himself at that time and to repeat my statement today as well.” He said, “Even if I don’t have any money on me, I will get it from the farmers and give his family compensation.”

Yatnal assaults Jarkiholi Satish

Yatnal said, “Minister Satish Jarkiholi, who had called the term “Hindu” “dirty,” was now visiting Hindu temples since his daughter was running for Lok Sabha.

Yatnal said that after doing pooja to his cars at cemeteries, he now focused on temples. He questioned, “How many more days will you call him a Sahukar and salute him, Jharkiholi?”
