Sakthi Surabi Biogas Plant Marks 25 Years of Renewable Energy Production

Because it’s good for the environment, biogas—a renewable energy source made from the decomposition of organic matter—is becoming more and more popular. The 25-year-old Shakti Surabi Biogas factory in Rameswaram Mangammal Chatram, Tamil Nadu, has revolutionized kitchen waste management by eliminating the need for traditional gas cylinders.

The Sakthi Surabi Biogas plant, which was founded by the Vivekananda Kendra, uses kitchen trash to generate cooking gas, hence establishing more than 100 plants of this kind around Rameswaram. This novel method, which concentrates on vegetable scraps, old rice, and fish instead of cow and human waste, has been a huge success.

The biogas plant, which has a 1 cubic meter capacity, produces around 370 grams of LPG gas for every kilogram of organic waste, which is a significant savings of three or four LPG cylinders annually. The communities of Pudur, Natarajapuram, Ramakrishnapuram, and Dhanushkodi have benefited from this project, which has touched 100 fishermen’s homes in Rameswaram.

Pramos Company experts have praised Shakti Surabi Biogas as a sustainable alternative with low maintenance costs and a 25-year lifetime. The plant needs an initial expenditure of Rs. 28,000 to be set up; no maintenance is needed; only cow dung is needed.

After a protracted development process, Shakti Surabi Biogas was introduced in 1998 and quickly gained worldwide acclaim. Its energy-saving technique was recognized with the prestigious London Aston Award. Because of its effectiveness, biogas use has attracted attention from nations like South Africa, China, and India, where it may lessen environmental impact and meet energy needs.

Adoption of biogas is popular in places like Kerala, indicating that it has the potential to be widely used across India. In order to relieve Tamil Nadu people of the financial burden of gas cylinder expenses, Sridhar of Vivekananda Kendra demonstrated the need for adopting biogas technology.

The triumph of Shakti Surabi Biogas underscores the revolutionary capacity of sustainable energy resolutions to tackle ecological predicaments and provide concrete advantages to nearby populations. Technology based on biogas offers everyone a cleaner, greener future with sustained support and acceptance.
