The Delhi Police have detained four guys for allegedly transferring a significant quantity of foreign SIM cards to Vietnam on a monthly basis so that users may use them for social networking and gaming apps. These SIM cards were hidden inside a journal, in a hollow.
Anil Kumar (20), Kanhaiya Gupta (29), Hemant (26), and Mukul Kumar (22), according to the police, were members of a syndicate that used to get SIM cards issued in the names of laborers and sell them to customers in Vietnam at higher prices.
They used to spend little amounts of money to entice laborers. Police claim that these suspects were paid using a cryptocurrency software that was outlawed in India.
The problem was discovered when the FedEx courier’s manager of operations at the airport cargo terminal filed a complaint with the Delhi Police’s IGI section.
Police said that during physical inspections, a package with a large number of SIM cards that was meant for Vietnam was discovered. According to the lawsuit, these SIMs were coated in carbon paper and stored inside a diary in a gap created by cutting the pages.
According to DCP (IGI) Usha Rangnani, “500 SIM cards were found in three separate packages,” as The Indian Express reported.
The DCP said that the accused claimed the SIM cards were being utilized in Vietnamese gaming applications and to boost social media account likes for profiteering.
The people in Vietnam who were placing the SIM card orders would be the subject of future legal procedures in this matter, police noted.
According to a police inquiry, the majority of SIM card users were factory workers from Loha Mandi in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, and the SIMs were distributed from point-of-sale locations nearby. Mukul paid laborers Rs. 200 each to register a SIM card in their names.
The investigation further said that Mukul later sold these SIMs to Hemant, Kanhaiya, and Anil for Rs 300 and Rs 500 per person, respectively.
