Streets get flooded due to overflow from a congested Hisar sewage system

The town’s sewage system seems to be breaking at the seams; in several places, clogged pipes cause manholes to overflow and back up. The problem cannot be resolved by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), which is in charge of cleaning the sewage pipes.

The departing Municipal Corporation (MC) body’s members said they received a deluge of these complaints from all throughout the town. In the majority of the communities, things are very dire. They said that while the PHED was in charge of the sewage system, the MC was not, which made things more difficult.

Session House Colony is home to government personnel stationed in Hisar. Ram Niwas Beniwal, one of the inhabitants, described the people in the neighborhood as harassed. Every home’s sewage pipe is clogged. We’ve voiced our concerns to PHED representatives. Even though our complaint remained unresolved, it was deemed “disposed” when an SDO and a Junior Engineer visited the area and reported to higher authorities that the sewage pipe had been cleaned.

Ward 17 MC member Mahender Juneja said that throughout the previous five years, the subject of clogged sewage lines had been brought up by all MC members many times. In the Patel Nagar neighborhood, the sewage line was installed in 1980. This area has three times as many people living here now as it had then. Additionally, there are several breaks in the pipes, which causes sewage and drinkable water to mingle, the guy said.

Juneja said that in several areas inside the town’s interior, the sewage system was in danger of collapsing. “Apart from the interior localities, the worst affected areas are Laxmi Nagar, Navdeep Colony, Umed Vihar, Shyam Vihar, and Model Town area near Dabra Chowk,” he said.

However, Gautam Sardana, the departing mayor of the MC, said that a number of problems, including the mechanized cleaning system’s inadequacy for the sewage lines, unapproved colonies that were subsequently regularized, and dairies inside the town, contributed to the sewer lines being clogged. He said that the cow excrement in the sewage systems causes total choke since it is similar to cement.

Sardana clarified, nevertheless, that the MC has created a plan worth Rs 56 crore for the upkeep and repair of the outdated sewage systems. “The town will get relief from the sewerage problem if this plan is executed,” he said, noting that they had been insisting that the PHED be placed under the MC for optimal operation.

After receiving a complaint, PHED Executive Engineer Balkar Redu promised to take appropriate action. “Whenever we receive a complaint, we make sure that the choked lines are cleaned with the assistance of machines,” he said.
