Supreme Court decides to hear Arvind Kejriwal’s case immediately after his arrest

Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal is detained On Thursday night (March 21), Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court contesting his detention by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the excise policy scam money laundering case. Yesterday, there was no special hearing for his petition. According to sources, no special bench was assembled to hear the petition on Thursday night. Senior attorney Abhishek Manu Singhvi brought up Kejriwal’s appeal against the Enforcement Directorate’s arrest of him. Kejriwal’s case was assigned for a hearing before a bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
Judge Khanna led a two-judge panel of the Supreme Court, informing senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi that a three-judge bench would hear the case if it was a written plea.

The development follows shortly after the high court order, which denied the AAP leader protection from arrest in the case, A 10-member ED team led by an additional director arrived at his official residence on Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines in the national capital, conducted searches, and arrested the leader of the party after more than two hours. Prior to the detention, Kejriwal was also briefly questioned by the ED, according to sources.

AAP leader and Delhi Minister Atishi made the following statement to the media yesterday: “We have filed an application in the Supreme Court against the illegal arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.” The Supreme Court will discuss it first thing tomorrow morning. We anticipate that democracy will be upheld by the Supreme Court.

Atishi called Kejriwal’s detention an “assault on democracy” and questioned the timing of the arrest. She said that in the next Lok Sabha elections, Akhilesh Kejriwal is the most well-liked politician with a chance to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Today, everyone has seen an effort to destroy democracy. Arvind Kejriwal, the well-liked chief minister of Delhi and a well-known opposition figure, was detained on fabricated allegations after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. In the two years that this inquiry has been ongoing, neither the ED nor the CBI have discovered a single dime. But Arvind Kejriwal is jailed just after the election is declared. Why? Since PM Narendra Modi is aware that Arvind Kejriwal is the only politician who has the ability to oppose him,” she said.

The BJP calls for Kejriwal’s ouster.
Following his detention, the BJP called for the Chief Minister’s resignation.

“Arvind Kejriwal’s government of theft and deception has finally come to an end. There have been links being made between him and the Delhi liquor scandal from 2020–21. Virendra Sachdeva, the president of the Delhi BJP, said, “I feel that the truth had to win in the end, but investigating agencies are still questioning.”
