Surprise Electricity Bill of Rs. 1 Lakh for a 90-Year-Old Woman Living in a Shed in Karnataka

Girijamma, a 90-year-old woman who lives in a small shack in Koppal, Karnataka’s Bhagyanagar, suffered the shock of her life when she received a Rs. 1 lakh energy bill.The elderly lady was in tears when she received a bill for Rs 1,03,315 for the month of May. She had previously paid Rs 70 to Rs 80 each month as a power cost.

Girijamma, who is already having trouble making ends meet, makes a plea to the media for help.

K.J. George, the power minister for Karnataka, responded to media inquiries about the matter on Thursday by claiming that a meter reading mistake caused the additional charge to be created.

Due to a problem with the meter, she received a bill that stated the incorrect amount. She is not required to pay the charge, George added.

The employees of Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (Gescom) hurried to the minister’s shed after hearing what she had to say.
