Surveys: Special trains to connect Kovai and Chennai via delta areas

To lessen congestion before the general elections, the Southern Railway has chosen to run special trains from Chennai to Coimbatore and Nagercoil. It’s interesting to note that the mainline passing via Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Kumbakonam, Tiruchy, and Dindigul would be used by the trains heading to Coimbatore from Chennai Egmore.

An official announcement states that on April 18 and 20, Thursday and Saturday, the Chennai Egmore-Coimbatore Special Express would depart at 4:25 pm and arrive in Coimbatore at 8:20 am.

On April 19 and 21, which are Friday and Sunday, the Coimbatore-Chennai Egmore special express will depart Coimbatore at 8.40 pm and arrive in Chennai Egmore at 10.05 am the following day. In both directions, the trains will pass via the stations at Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Kumbakonam, Tiruchy, Dindigul, Palani, Pollachi, and Podanur.

In a same vein, on April 18 and 20, (a Thursday and Saturday), the Tambaram-Kanniyakumari Superfast Special will depart Tambaram at 4:45 pm and arrive in Kanniyakumari at 4:40 am.

The Kanniyakumari-Tambaram Superfast Special is scheduled to depart Kanniyakumari on Friday, April 19, at 8.30 pm, and arrive in Tambaram on Sunday, April 21, at 9.20 am. The announcement said, “Online advance reservations for the trains have opened.”
