Central Goods and Services Tax officers are detained by CBI in a case involving bribery

In a bribery case involving seven lakh, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained two Superintendents and three Inspectors, all from the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Jabalpur.

The suspects that were apprehended were identified as Superintendents Kapil Kamble, Somen Goswami, Veerendra Jain, Vikas Gupta, and Pradeep Hazari. Everybody was at CGST in Jabalpur. A Superintendent of the CGST in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, is the subject of an investigation by the CBI into allegations that he demanded payment of one crore in bribes in exchange for granting a factory release order. Furthermore, it was claimed that the aforementioned Superintendents and other CGST, Jabalpur authorities had already searched and sealed the factory’s premises in May 2023. Negotiations resulted in a reduction of the purported payment to Rs 35 lakh.

Additionally, it has been claimed that the complainant gave the Superintendents Rs 25 lakh while asking for additional time to pay the remaining Rs 10 lakh.

After further discussion, the aforementioned defendant then dropped the bribe to Rs 7 lakh.
The CBI demanded and accepted a payment of Rs 7 lakh from the complainant while setting a trap that resulted in the capture of two superintendents and three inspectors.

Seven sites, including the accused’s Jabalpur home and workplace, were searched, and as a result, roughly Rs 83 lakh in cash was recovered.
The five apprehended suspects will all be presented in court today in the CBI Cases, Special Judge, Jabalpur.
