The eagerly awaited 34th Vijayawada Book Festival is scheduled to open on Thursday. In addition to providing a venue for discussions, book inaugurations, literary gatherings, speeches by renowned authors, and a special section for children’s books, the festival will feature thousands of books in various languages.

The Vijayawada Books Exhibition Society (VBES) is organizing the festival, which promises to enthrall guests with an extensive collection of books from several publishers throughout the nation. The 11-day literary festival will take place on the campus of the city’s Government Polytechnic College.

The festival will be inaugurated by Education Minister Botcha Satyanarayana, Chairman of Sahitya Akademi Madhav Kaushik, and Secretary K Sreenivasa Rao.

The book festival is named after Varahalu Chetty, a well-known bookseller in Andhra Pradesh; the main dais is named after Kethu Vishwanadha Reddy, a Sahitya Akademi winner; and the separate enclosure provided for children is named after Srirama, a distinguished journalist, according to Emesco Publications founder and chairperson D Vijay Kumar, who spoke to the media on Wednesday.

The secretary of Sahitya Akademi said that Indians continue to read physical books even in the face of the country’s widespread use of technology and internet resources. After China and the United States, India is the third-largest publishing nation in the world. He also revealed the range of services offered by Sahitya Akademi.

The events will start on Thursday night, according to VBES President T Manohar Naidu, and the festival gates will be open every day from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Naidu said that over 150 publishers would have 204 stands displaying lakhs of books, and that approximately 5 lakh people are anticipated this year.
