The candidate for the National Conference launches her campaign in Mehbooba Mufti’s hometown

Mian Altaf, the National Conference candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat, launched his campaign on Saturday in Bijbehara, the birthplace of Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Renowned Gujjar leader Mian Altaf said that the present elections were a chance to demonstrate to the world that the people of J&K never approved of the repeal of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, rather than criticizing any political opponent.

“This is your chance to demonstrate to the world that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have never complied with the decision made on August 5, 2019, to repeal Articles 370 and 35A. Accordingly, every vote cast for the National Conference in the next parliamentary election would represent a rejection of that unlawful ruling, according to Altaf.

With the exception of Jammu & Kashmir, the NC candidate claimed that no state had ever been demoted to a Union Territory in the history of independent India.

Not only was our state demoted, but it was split into two Union Territories. We were humiliated in this way, the NC leader remarked.

People from Ladakh are currently demonstrating against the undemocratic decision in large numbers. Restrictions have been put in place there to silence these sincere dissenting voices, he continued.

Politics that sow division was never Mian Altaf’s philosophy. He went on, “I will fight to restore every person’s dignity in Jammu and Kashmir.”
