The involvement of the SC may provide drought relief to Karnataka: Krishna Byre Gowda, Minister

On Sunday, here in this place, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda expressed optimism that the Supreme Court will give the Center instructions to disburse NDRF money against drought assistance. Gowda traveled for the nation’s capital on Sunday to conduct discussions with the state’s attorneys as the Supreme Court is set to hear the writ case filed by the state on Monday.

The case, which the attorney general for the Center requested be postponed for two weeks, was heard by the Supreme Court on April 8 and is scheduled for Monday. We anticipate that the Supreme Court’s intervention will enable the state’s farmers to get the drought relief grant that they are entitled to,” he said.

On March 15, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah received a letter from Nityanand Rai, the state minister of home affairs, informing him that the High Level Committee (HLC) meeting, which was scheduled to be held under the direction of home minister Amit Shah, had not happened. According to him, the state was compelled to petition the Supreme Court after submitting its report requesting the cash on November 13, 2023.

Although Congress had brought up the matter, Amit Shah attributed the money’ delayed distribution to the report’s late submission. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman acknowledged the delay, but asserted that the ECI is the party in question and that it must authorize HLC to call the meeting.
