The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association postspones its walkout for today

The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) has called off its strike on Monday after the state government took appropriate action over the problem of mistreating a government doctor. The PCMSA has opted to stage a solidarity march tomorrow at the state’s public health institutions instead of carrying out the strike call that was scheduled for all government healthcare centers on Monday. This decision was made unanimously.

All public healthcare facilities in the state were forced to declare a state-wide strike in response to the regrettable event that resulted in Dr. Sunil Bhagat, SMO, ESI Hospital, Hoshiarpur, being hospitalized due to abuse by a patient’s attendants.

The Punjab Health Minister has promised to establish a grievance redressal mechanism at the district level. The institution head will be in charge of filing the institutional PI and FIR in the event that another incidence of this kind occurs in the future. The government has guaranteed that security for public health facilities would be provided by both contracted workers and a police chowki.
