According to a statement released by his office, the decision was made at a cabinet meeting presided over by the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The family from Bihar had previously received an emergency financial support grant of Rs. 1 lakh from the Women and Child Development Department.

On July 28, the girl was reportedly raped and killed by a migrant worker from Bihar who lived in the same building as the victim.

The accused, Ashfaq Alam, was detained that day, but the next day, the girl’s corpse was discovered in a bag abandoned in a swampy area behind a small market in Aluva. On August 1, he was sent to police detention for ten days.

The police claim that five years ago, in Delhi, Alam was detained under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and spent a month in prison before being freed on bail.

According to Kerala police, he was detained by the Ghazipur police in east Delhi in 2018 for allegedly trying to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl there.
