There is probably a US consulate in Amritsar. former representative

The US consulate may soon open in Amritsar. Dr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the former Indian ambassador to the US and a presumed BJP candidate for the Amritsar seat, revealed this.

In a discussion with S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, Dr. Sandhu said that Amritsar may be the site of the US consulate.

Dr. Sandhu’s establishment of the Indian consulate in Seattle, Washington, in November 2023 was one of his accomplishments as an ambassador.

It was in 2016, seven years ago, when US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to establish a consulate here.

The United States of America is scheduled to establish two new consulates in India as part of the reciprocal plan to build new consulates in both nations. Prior to the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1992, Dr. Sandhu had the distinction of inaugurating the Indian Embassy in Kiev, the capital city of Ukraine.

He predicted that merchants would grow their companies and that the border residents would have numerous options to get visas from this location with the inauguration of the US consulate in Amritsar.

The United States of America wants to establish two new consulates in India. He stated, “I have the assurance from the foreign minister that there would be attempts made to establish one in the holy city.

Dr. Sandhu also spoke with him on expanding air connectivity and starting cargo services from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar.

“There are infinite possibilities of increasing air connectivity with America, Canada, Europe, and the Gulf countries,” he stated, highlighting the fact that increased connectivity would greatly raise Amritsar’s economic potential. Cargo facilities will make it easier for farmers, dealers, and businesspeople to ship fruits and vegetables to outside markets, increasing their revenue.
