“They Won’t Even Consider Father Their Own”: BJP MP Mahesh Sharma Stirs Up Controversy with Modi-Yogi Speech

Mahesh Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (MP) caused a stir a few days before to the Lok Sabha elections when he said that anyone who don’t see Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “their own” are “traitors.”

Even their fathers won’t be considered their own by those who do not see Yogi and Modi as their own. Anyone who claims that they own him more than Modi-Yogi is betraying our nation. The individual is not interested in the welfare of the nation or the state, Sharma said during a Bulandshahr election rally.

According to some sources, the comments seemed to be directed against a specific group in western Uttar Pradesh. On April 12, a news agency released a video of the address; nevertheless, on Wednesday, it became wildly popular on social media.

Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV asked the Election Commission to intervene after posting the video on X.

“Dear Election Commission, it’s time to choose your companion. The Congress leader said, “If you are impartial, then act; if not, then you are with Modi, according to Mahesh Sharma.”
