today’s BJP CEC meeting; significant MP choices

In anticipation of the approaching Assembly elections, the BJP has summoned a meeting of its Central Election Committee (CEC) at the party headquarters here on Wednesday.

All of the CEC members will be present at the meeting, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

The party high leadership may make some significant choices on the upcoming Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, according to sources.

Typically, the party CEC meeting is convened to consider the potential candidates for the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections. These meetings are typically only scheduled after the Election Commission releases the election dates, thus it is unexpected that this time the party called the CEC meeting before the release of the election dates.

However, sources said that at the CEC meeting, there would be discussion over the seats in these two states where the party is more vulnerable.

According to further sources, the party aims to announce the candidates for these marginal districts in advance. Their identities wouldn’t be made public right away, however.

According to the sources, the party will tell these chosen candidates after their names have been decided upon and will give them instructions to start their election campaign so that by the time the election dates are published, they would have an advantage over the candidates of other parties.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, state BJP chairman V.D. Sharma, Arun Sao, and other party officials from these two states involved in election campaigns may also attend the CEC meeting.
