Udhampur: Star campaigners avoid the low-key canvassing by the Congress

High-profile Congressmen who were on the list of prominent campaigners for the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, such as Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, were still absent on Wednesday as the intense campaign came to a conclusion.

The Congress is running against Jitendra Singh, the incumbent MP and Union Minister for the seat. Singh is a formidable opponent for the BJP. Singh plans to seek a third term. Congress only sent middle-ranking politicians to campaign, while prominent saffron party figures, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, participated in the Udhampur seat.

Along with 27 other national heavyweights, the list of prominent Congress campaigners for J&K includes party chairman Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi. They could, however, go for the second round of the Jammu Lok Sabha seat elections, which are scheduled for April 26. April 19 will see elections for the Udhampur seat.

On April 12, PM Modi traveled to Udhampur; on April 15, the Defense Minister traveled to Basohli in Kathua. On April 10, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, paid a visit to Kathua town.

12 Udhampur candidates are competing.

There are twelve candidates running from Udhampur, which has eighteen Assembly seats dispersed among the districts of Ramban, Kathua, Kishtwar, Doda, and Udhampur.
The constituency has 2,637 voting places set up, including 405 in Kishtwar, 529 in Doda, 348 in Ramban, 654 in Udhampur, and 701 in Kathua districts.
