Unwavering battle in the border constituency

Chamarajanagara: In the approaching elections, the Congress and the BJP-JD (S) combination will square off in this important Lok Sabha seat. The outcome of this constituency, as well as the Lok Sabha seat in Mysuru, is crucial for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s standing within the Congress party. Siddaramaiah, who has previously supported Sunil Bose in two campaigns, has given the Congress candidate, who is running for office, substantial support. After winning the seat for the first time in 2019, the BJP is keen to keeping it and the Congress is motivated to take it back.

A hole has been created in the campaign by sitting BJP MP V. Srinivas Prasad’s retirement, and Siddaramaiah and BJP veteran B.S. Yediyurappa have both visited Prasad to find out how he is doing. After lengthy deliberations, the Congress selected Sunil Bose, the son of Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa, as its candidate. S. Balaraj, the former Kollegal MLA, was the BJP’s nominee; he beat off a number of formidable opponents, including Prasad’s son-in-law.

The constituency, which is dealing with severe drought conditions, has emerged as a main topic of discussion in political discussions over drought assistance. The BJP is focusing on Lingayat votes, Scheduled Tribes, and a segment of the backward classes, while the Congress is optimistic about winning over Dalits, OBCs, minorities, and certain Lingayats and Vokkaligas. Both parties are making targeted appeals. (Mysuru/Coovercolly Inndresh)
