Vadra is aching for a trip to Amethi. Congress, are you paying attention?

Robert Vadra, the husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, declared his intention to run for the Lok Sabha from Amethi amid the anticipation around the candidacy of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi from that constituency. In an interview, Vadra said, “The people of Amethi expect me to represent them… if I decide to become an MP.”

Smriti Irani, the Union minister and current MP for Amethi, was singled out by Vadra for not ensuring the constituency’s growth. “The Amethi people will give the Congress a big win when they feel they have made a mistake, when they feel they want the Gandhi family to come back, or if they want me,” he said.

Irani beat Rahul in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Amethi. But in Kerala’s Wayanad, Rahul prevailed with a commanding margin of more over four lakh votes.

Vadra has already stated his intention to run for office. He had said as much in April 2022, but he had also mentioned that he preferred Priyanka to become an MP before he did the same. “I believe I can come after Priyanka Gandhi becomes an MP. I want her to be an MP first.I talk to individuals, and there are members of parliament from various parties. The MPs invite me to join their party and inquire about the cause of the postponement. Additionally, they guarantee my backing, which is why several gatherings over the nation are requesting that I join them.Beyond party lines, I have connections with a lot of individuals,” he said.

“They want someone from the Gandhi family to come back, and they’ll make sure that person wins by a wide majority. They also anticipate that I should represent Amethi if I decide to enter politics and become an MP,” he said. Vadra further emphasized that the Congress leadership would make the ultimate call on Amethi and Rae Bareli.
