Veena George, the minister of health, advises being wary of illnesses spread by mosquitoes

As the state experiences sporadic rains, Health Minister Veena George has advised vigilance against mosquito-borne illnesses, including dengue, chikungunya, malaria, and filariasis. In order to stop the development of these viral infections, she also emphasized the need to remove breeding grounds.

“Avoid letting water stand still inside or close to homes. It is important to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites. Cleanliness in homes and the surrounding areas is important, Veena said, giving authorities the go-ahead to step up pre-monsoon cleaning efforts.

According to a March conference, dengue cases are more common in Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Ernakulam’s metropolitan and coastal districts. The district-level officials were instructed by the minister to step up field-level operations. In April, the state recorded more than 1,400 cases of dengue and one death.
