We found narcotics, alcohol, and valuables worth Rs 4.86 crore

Since March 1, law enforcement forces have seized cash, precious metals, narcotics, and alcohol valued at Rs 4.86 crore from various locations in the city ahead of the General Elections.

The Election Commission of India reports that from March 1 to April 13, the city saw the seizure of narcotics valued at Rs 2 crore, illicit liquor valued at Rs 91.57 lakh, cash totaling Rs 96.90 lakh, and precious metals valued at Rs 52.69 lakh.

Yesterday, the UT Excise and Taxation Department confiscated 5,292 bottles of beer without a valid permission, worth around Rs 30 lakh, along with 12,120 bottles of foreign liquor that was imported and foreign liquor that was manufactured in India.

In the meantime, the enforcement teams carried out further checks today at the several licensing units designated for the Excise Policy year 2024–2025. Three department enforcement teams seized alcohol without proper passes and permissions during these inspections. There was also beer that had gone bad.

Commissioner of Excise and Taxation Rupesh Kumar said that 2,718 bottles totalling around Rs 8 lakh had been confiscated. He noted that beer and liquor were among the items seized and that defaulting licensees were the target of proceedings filed for violating the excise laws.

He said that the department would maintain a close watch and that no one would be permitted to violate the Excise Policy and Act or the Model Code of Conduct established by the Indian Election Commission.
