Will car towing be reinstated in Bengaluru? Specialized traffic cops are driving to reduce parking congestion

Targeting certain roadways, the South Division of the Bengaluru Traffic Police is initiating a special campaign aimed at facilitating unhindered and safe vehicular traffic. Based on the importance of these roads for traffic flow and the frequency of infractions that citizens, law enforcement officers, and road users have reported, over 65 roads have been identified among the division’s 12 stations. Most of the recorded offenses are linked to parking limits, riding on sidewalks, going against the legal traffic direction on one-way streets, and inappropriate parking.

In order to reduce traffic, the traffic police will give priority to certain designated highways starting this week, according to Shiva Prakash Devaraju, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic South). Authorities emphasized that there may be significant traffic along this length of road even if there was only one parked car.

Among the routes that are being targeted are:

Eighty and One Hundred Feet of Road in Koramangala

Main Road in Hosur

Outside Ring Road is under the control of Madiwala Police Station Main Road in Tilak Nagar

Arekere Crossroads on Bannerghatta Avenue

Road segments in Sarjapur

From Ecospace Junction to Bellandur’s 27th and 24th major roads in the HSR Layout, there is a service lane on the Outer Ring Road.

Zones of zero tolerance!
Even a single parked car may cause traffic during rush hour. We are requesting that people park in bylanes. We are concentrating on locations that are congestion spots, including parking in front of residences, in addition to ORR. These enforcement initiatives are being carried out in response to public feedback and traffic congestion observations. The goal is to declare certain routes as zero-tolerance areas and deal with infractions of the law as soon as possible. The main topics of discussion will be parking-related, such as prohibiting parking on sidewalks, enforcing no-parking laws, and roadside parking.

Will car towing be allowed again?
Additionally, towing services may be temporarily reinstated in the south division by traffic officials. We want to test the reintroduction of towing again, concentrating on areas that are very congested, such Bellandur, the HSR Layout, and Kanakapura Road. According to a senior police official, the expenses would first be paid for at the police station level.

Currently, Bengaluru has restrictions on car towing
In case you were unaware, car towing in Bengaluru has been suspended from February 2022. The halt of towing was ordered by former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai in response to public protest. Instead, since then, traffic officials have been enforcing penalties and using wheel clamping.
