With the completion of the 2 km tunnel, a major milestone was reached for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RAPIDX Corridor

Tuesday marked a significant achievement for the planned Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RAPIDX route with the faultless completion of the 2 km-long tunnel between Anand Vihar and Sahibabad. This will help to significantly increase regional connection.

The astounding achievement was achieved with the “Sudarshan 4.4” tunnel boring machine’s (TBM) breakthrough at the Vaishali retrieving shaft in Ghaziabad.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation’s (NCRTC) Managing Director, Vinay Kumar Singh, attended the occasion and started the breakthrough by remotely pressing the breakthrough button. Honorable directors and top corporate leaders were present for this historic event as well.

A big step forward in the tunneling projects has been made with the “Sudarshan 4.4” TBM’s successful arrival at the Vaishali retrieving shaft after starting its trip from the launching shaft at Anand Vihar.

The deployment of seven state-of-the-art Sudarshan TBMs deserves credit for the exceptional completion of the complete tunneling procedure in less than 18 months. These cutting-edge machinery were essential in creating the 12 km of parallel tunnels that make up the ground-breaking RRTS corridor in India. Additionally, the remaining 70 km of the route are made up largely of elevated parts, with an exceptional viaduct completion rate of 80%.

Over 80,000 precast parts have to be used in the building of these intricate tunnels. These expertly designed tunnel parts were made in modern casting yards in Shatabdi Nagar, Meerut, and Karkardooma, New Delhi.

Moving on, Delhi now successfully has four tunnels that were started at the underground RAPIDX station in Anand Vihar. The smooth running of trains is essentially made possible by these tunnels. Two parallel tunnels, each extending about 3 km, would be one of them and provide a crucial connection between Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar stations. Anand Vihar station and Sahibabad station would also be connected by a second set of parallel tunnels, each extending around 2 kilometers.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RAPIDX corridor advances significantly with this remarkable achievement, coming closer to its ultimate fulfillment and offering a seismic shift in the region’s connectivity and mobility.
