After a successful heel surgery to repair his Achilles tendon, Mohammed Shami posts a photo from the hospital

The Achilles tendon of India’s bowler Mohammed Shami was successfully repaired on Monday after heel surgery. Shami said it would take some time to fully recover and resume playing cricket. Shami updated his followers on his injuries and announced that he had a successful procedure in the UK on Monday night by posting photographs to his social media sites.

“My Achilles tendon had a successful heel surgery recently. In his post on X, the former Twitter, Shami said, “Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet.”

Mohammed Shami sustained an injury during India’s 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, and he hasn’t participated in any cricket since Australia defeated India in the championship match at Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19.

The Indian pacer was not available for the trip of South Africa and the following T20I home series against Australia. It was revealed a few days ago that Shami would have surgery in the UK and miss the whole five-match Test series against England.

Although he had anticipated recovering in time for the England series, the injury proved to be more severe than first believed.

Shami, who was instrumental in helping the Gujarat Titans win the 2022 and 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), will also be absent in 2024.

In his ten-year career, Shami—who was recently awarded the Arjuna Award—has amassed 229 Test, 195 ODI, and 24 T20 wickets.

The National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) injury recovery management regimen for Shami is called into doubt by this development.

The speed bowling specialist’s chances of recovering before India’s home Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand in October and November are now very slim.

The highly anticipated away series versus Australia may be his objective.
