After the 2-2 Ashes draw, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jonny Bairstow, and Zak Crawley advance in the most recent test rankings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its most recent list of Test players on Wednesday, and England hitters Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jonny Bairstow, and Zak Crawley all rose in the rankings.

At The Oval on Monday, England defeated Australia in the fifth Ashes Test by a score of 49 runs to even the series at two games each. In the last Test of the series, England put on an outstanding batting show supported by their pacers.

Former captain Root moved up one position to second place in the Test batter rankings, with just experienced New Zealander Kane Williamson ahead of him, while youthful teammate Brook climbed two spots to ninth place and a new rating after scoring 363 runs for the series.

On the list of hitters, compatriots Jonny Bairstow (up two spots to 17th) and Zak Crawley (up six rungs to equal 29th) make some progress as well. The Australian players that advance in the rankings are the seasoned team of Steve Smith (up three spots to third) and Usman Khawaja (up one spot to seventh).

The biggest mover this week is departing pacer Stuart Broad, who bagged 22 wickets during the Ashes series, while India’s Ravichandran Ashwin continues to hold the top spot among Test bowlers.

Mark Wood (up two ranks to 21st and a new career-high rating) and Chris Woakes (up eight spaces to 23rd) were both rewarded for their impressive Ashes performance, while Broad moves up four slots to fourth overall.

Inexperienced spinner Todd Murphy gets a new career-high rating after moving up nine spots to 57th, while veteran pacer Mitchell Starc jumps two rungs to joint 12th after taking 23 wickets in the series.

Following the team’s victory in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, a few of Pakistan’s players have made significant progress in the rankings. Abdullah Shafique has climbed 27 positions to rank 21st, Mohammad Rizwan has climbed four spots to tie for 29th, and Agha Salman has climbed 23 positions to rank 35th.

Their bowlers also received praise, with emerging pacer Naseem Shah moving up seven slots to tie for 37th and left-arm spinner Noman Ali moving up 13 spaces to 42nd.

Although veteran Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav moved up eight spots to 14th on the list of ODI bowlers after his outstanding performance with the ball against the West Indies, there wasn’t much movement in the ODI rankings this week.

Ishan Kishan, a rising star in the top order, rose up the comparable rankings for ODI batsmen after scoring two consecutive half-centuries to start the series in the Caribbean (up 15 spots to equal 45th).
